I think I could use an extra low speed "granny" for crawling around in parkin' lots and taking of from a dead stop on hilly intersections and such. it'd be easier on the clutch, especially with lots of luggage, trailer, and two people on. As far as the top-end goes, the roadie has all the top-end speed capability that I'll ever need on this side of heaven. Like you, I thought there was plenty of top end already, and that the bottom end could just a bit of help on launch... so I bought a 31 tooth front pulley. Mine dropped about 10 miles a gallon. The bikes leaps off the line now, but @ 70 it sucks down gas like you would not believe. 100 to 125 miles per tank. I typically only ride in the 35 - 45 mph range, and want the 31 tooth for the greater flexibility it gives in the mid-range speeds. I'll be able to hang in 4th almost all the time, whereas now, I'm always going back and forth between third and fourth in that range.
