The only place my Roadie could use a SIXTH gear is right before FIRST gear. I think I could use an extra low speed "granny" for crawling around in parkin' lots and taking of from a dead stop on hilly intersections and such. it'd be easier on the clutch, especially with lots of luggage, trailer, and two people on.
As far as the top-end goes, the roadie has all the top-end speed capability that I'll ever need on this side of heaven.
The only extra gear a Roadie really needs is a "granny low" sixth speed, in my opinion.

I went the other way with it. Like you, I thought there was plenty of top end already, and that the bottom end could just a bit of help on launch... so I bought a 31 tooth front pulley.

It goes on in the Spring!

that would be when the sixth gear at the top would be nice, new front pulley for all the low end pull. than a 6th gear to keep the top end freeway cruising from being to high of an RPM.
I drive a lot of highway and would like to keep the top gear close to what it is but usually am at 80mph and could use just a little more gear.. but would like a stronger pull out of the hole.. but can't sacrifice the top end..

Your gas mileage will go to hell. Mine dropped about 10 miles a gallon. The bikes leaps off the line now, but @ 70 it sucks down gas like you would not believe. 100 to 125 miles per tank. The engine is not quite stock, but it is not radical either.

Actually, in my case, I'm thinking it won't. I typically only ride in the 35 - 45 mph range, and want the 31 tooth for the greater flexibility it gives in the mid-range speeds. I'll be able to hang in 4th almost all the time, whereas now, I'm always going back and forth between third and fourth in that range.

My V-Star 1100 is incredibly flexible in that speed range, and I can ride there in fourth at all times... because of the gearing.
