INSTALLING NEW PIPES - CAN I DO IT? 3 Years, 4 Months ago
I am looking at a couple different types of pipes to replace my stock pipes. The shop said since my bike is not fuel injected it would require re-jetting of the carb. Being clueless I would say okay. But I've read some things in this clinic that state otherwise. So I'm inclined to believe what I've read. Only the pipes will be replaced. Any further comments on that? Also if I don't need any additional work is it an easy swap out? Can I remove my own pipes and put the new ones on without much difficulty? I like to do things myself but have no experience on bikes. Thanks. Rich

If you are not changing the air box you typically do not need to reject. As long as its just pipes. What are you putting on? Do they have baffles? If they are open pipes you may need to tweak the PMS but thats about it. And yes you can do it yourself.

IF you only replace the pipes you do NOT have to rejet until you change out the airbox (which you will )
It's pretty easy to change the pipes just take your time and have the right tools.

Pipe install is real easy....re-jetting is a must and should be done by someone that is familar with carbs so let them do it if you have no experience.

Rich, if you know which end of a screwdriver to hold on to, you should have no problems..The duals are probably the hardest to put on. but not bad. plenty of help here if ya need it... At most you may need to adjust the pms, no jetting required unless you change the air box also....

Thank you for the info. I haven't chosen yet. First upgrade and would like to hear them somehow first. Looking at descriptions doesn't help a lot. But was looking at VH Big Shots or Power Shots. Like the look. Also Cobra gives you sound clips on their website and like the Speedster Slashdown. The stock pipes look great but don't have the sound I'd like. I like a good rumbling, not to annoying, rumbling when I'm riding, and maybe a little more noise when accelerating. That's my guess for now.
