At sea level this would not be a rich setting for the DJ setup.

Check your choke knob ... it may been to be trimmed.

Is there something in the jetting that could be making his bike go flat at 70 mph?

The main is the primary jet controlling fuel at higher rpm, so it's most likely the main ... it's a bit too small. For the DJ, 180/185 is more commonly run.

BTW .... he should read the Wide Open Throttle test outlined in the Tech Articles section to determine if his main if OK.

I edited my post as you replied

One does not start changing out jets randomly.

Folks should start with the WOT test to check the main and the move on to the Needle and PMS settings.

One thing at a time ... slow and sure.

I was simply following D J's jetting recommendation.
Ive jetted many bikes; most of them however have been single cylinder dirtbikes.
BTW the main jet was a dJ200; not a 175. sorry for the error.
I am aware of the wide open test for the main, Ive just been hesitant to due this do to all the engine noise. I wasnt sure if the motor would respond well to hard riding, cause I ony have about 1200 miles on the engine.

A DJ200 is too rich and would explain any black smoke or sooting you are getting.

You can ride it hard now .. the rev limiter is your friend.

Re:Engine Knocking 3 Years, 4 Months ago
I'm not seeing any black smoke are anything else of that nature, but this could be due to the fact that I've simply be unable to ride much do to the cold weather. Since rejetting the bike, Ive only had the chance to put about 100 miles on it. I was thinking of a high flow air filter of some type' any recomendations????
