clutch grabs and pulls in 1st and 2nd 3 Years, 2 Months ago
I,m new to the forum but have found it informative. I recently bought a 07 silverado. I previously owned an 1100. Well I have noticed that when I chug around the hood in 1st or 2nd gear at low speed ie 15 to 20 MPH that my bikes seems to grab on and off ie doesn,t run smooth at these speeds . Is this normal for roadstar My 1100 would chug in 2nd fine . Or is this a clutch or cable adjustment problem . The clutch and tranny is stock. I did have to adjust the cable ie to nickel adjustment. Dealer had it bottoming out. I knew from years with yamaha that wasn,t right. But I can,t seem to tweak out at least the 2nd gear slow cruse. Thanks for any info

If you're in second gear at those speeds you're lugging the motor IMO. These bikes just ain't happy at all being anywhere near lugging RPMs. These are my normal just out riding shift points ( made with a glance at the speedo.)

Shift into:
2nd - 27
3rd - 42
4th - 53
Never go to 5th under 60. And 65 would be better.

If you are talking about the jerky motion that the bike does at near idle RPM with the clutch engaged, this is normal. The Roadstar powerplant supplies a lot of torque. They will almost idle down the street in 5th gear. The torque supplied will pull the bike at idle RPM in 1st and 2nd gears but it will be jerky.

that is exactly what I,m talking about. I,m not used to that jerky ride but will try the 1st gear cruise thing. I only drive at those speeds around my section of town. Usually I,m all out keeping speed limits in mind

reread your response and I understand ( I think ) Your saying that it would actually be better to slow cruise at 3rd gear I,ll try that too. Heck when the weather is good I ride average 10000 a year can,t get enough a lways been that way ha ha
