BikerBob - I owned an '02 V-Star 1100 as well (my first real motorcycle) before I got my '07. It definitely took a while to get used to - the change that is. With the 1100, you COULD cruise in 2nd at 20 mph. I have learned that the Roadstar is completely different, and what everyone has said above is right. Rev this bike high before shifting! Here's my typical MINIMUM shift points:

1st to 2nd: 25 mph
2nd to 3rd: 41 mph
3rd to 4th: 53 mph
4th to 5th: 64 mph

Enjoy the Roadie, and ride it hard man.

:-DD.

Thanks DrumDon Everybody has been great about this but it is good to have someone that has went through the exact bike change that i have. I,ll just nhave to get used to the way the roadie runs. I hope I don,t have to buy too many back tires before I get it figured out he he

Same deal... moved from an '01 1100 Custom to an '01 Roadie... different as night and day! I like the 1100, but I love the Roadie like no other bike I've ever had before!

It'll chug at real slow speeds in 1st or 2nd, and there's no gettin' used to that. You just have to pull in the clutch and re-engage with a little more R's and keep them up.

hey guys thanks a million. Took my Roadie out today and puttered around in 1st gear keeping the RPMs up and I could tell the difference. Also kept them up in 2nd also. Actually I really didn,t have to leave 3rd gear anywhere around the city except when I picked up more speed ie over 40. Once again thanks a million
