big bore kit noise 5 Years, 3 Months ago  
2000 yamaha road star 110ci big bore kit installed at local dealer
the rattle it has is unreal the dealership "tech" (moron)said ride the bike it will get quiet in a few 1000 miles it sounds like detonation
he also said it was normal for all big bore kits to rattle
has any body else had this problem please help

Lucky you!
I wish I had a 110 cu in.... For the detonation, maybe I would look at ignition timing; big bore kits (108/110) usually raise comp ratio wich in turm sometime requires less advance. But it's only a suggestion...Also, being 10:1 and higher, you may need higher octane fuel if not already done/tried.

Like Avn said if its like a spark rattle go to the high octane fuel rather than the regular the stock Roadies run.....Coug

I had the same problem when I installed my 108&quot; kit. Ended up being detonation....I'm running 10.5:1 compression....high compression pistons require premium gas (93+octane). Now I don't have the knock or pinging anymore. Do you have the dyna3000 ignition? Getting that thing dialed in just right will take time....not to mention some nice weather, and a totally warm motor to get er all dialed in. anymore questions, feel free to ask....but you knew that already

It's most likely detonation so some good advice so far .......

switch to premium

and if it's still knocking ..... buy the Dyna and use the 'B' curves to fine tune.
