08 R whining sound from engine 3 Years, 1 Month ago
|
|
Just got this bike and I have about 100 miles on it. I just notice tonight when I start the bike and rev it up a little I get a whining sound in the engine. This could be a high pitch vibration sound however I can't figure out where it is coming from. It seems to be coming from the lower right hand side of the engine.
I can't recall hearing this before so I am just wondering if this is normal or is it just me?

Like Musky said, if the ais hasn't been removed yet it could be the culprit. If not you got a squirrel stuck underneath the engine

For what it's worth, check your belt tension. I got mine right from the dealer with the belt way too tight. Was really stressing the front drive pulley and actually caused a minor seal leak.

Mine has been "whining" since the day I picked it up in Jan '07. I think it is the square cut cam gears on mine as the "whine" comes from the cam cover when listening with a stethoscope. I removed the AIS in March of '07, so not that. It changes with the RPM's . Sounds kinda like a super charger. I got used to it.

Check to make sure your belt isn't rubbing on you lower plastic belt guard. There's a 5 second quick fix in the tech tips if that's what the problem is??

I think I know what you are hearing...... I wouldn't worry about it.
Mine makes so many noises..... If I ever start it up and its quiet, I'm gonna shut it off, cause something broke!

Thanks for the advice. I guess from what I am reading I will ride the bike and forget about it. I did check the belt and it is not that.
Thanks
