I live about a quarter mile from the gas station that I use. I fill the bike and then ride home. By the time I'm home, the needle is pegged at "Full."

The bike only has about 7,000 miles on it, though. Maybe as it gets more miles on it, the gas gauge will become less responsive.

Thanks also for the tip on straddling the bike and rocking it. I've rocked my Jeep when filling it before, to "burp" the gas tank because I've only got a 13-gallon tank in it. It occurred to me to do the same thing with the Roadie, but I didn't know if it would make much of a difference. I'll try it next time I refuel.

Off to a big motorcycle show being held in town, today. w00t!!

Did this mod Friday afternoon, the actual work took all of 30 seconds! Time to complete the job took about 15, since I spent 14.5 minutes looking for my awl (I have kids who like tools).

I'm due to fill up on the way home from work this afternoon, so I'll see what change it makes in fill-time and tank capacity.

I did the mod after reading about it. Think I noticed a quicker fill up on Sunday. Hey it was easy as I'm not very mechanical.

Today was the first time I filled up at the gas station (normally just top off at home from gas can) and it surprised me that I didn't have to keep burping it. When it stopped, I could only get another $0.50 in.

Yes the tank punch method was a great hit on my part, thanks for sharing that with me! I used an awl and poped two holes in the tank 180 out. Now it fills fast and to the top and I swear I get 1/2 gallon more in the thing, that really helps when you are riding long range. I want to carry an aux tank on some rides...lol

Seriously though, I think this is a mod you need to be careful with. The air space is there for several reasons, not the least of which is to keep cool gasoline from expanding and spilling where ever you may be parked. I understand the idea of wanting all the gas in you can get but in my business the risk outwieghs the gain...

Remember lawn darts? Just use a little commons sense and I get an extra, easy 50 miles out of a tank on a trip. Now am I going to pump it to the gills and park it in the sun? No. But on a trip it's very sweet MOD. And, I'm on a trip with Schatzie, we left last night at Deer dodging time.

Just gotta say, WOW ! !

Now that my mpg problems seems to have been fixed, I would not have thought there was a problem. My a$$ just isn't that tough. In most cases, when that dim little light comes on, I'm already looking for a stop. I pretty much only use my reserve valve around town.

But those of you with Iron Butts (and the wish for aux. gas tanks!) ride on!!!!!!
