Moving Brake Pedal Off Floorboard? 3 Years ago

Roadies:
I've seen a SoftBrake, Inc. solution to clearing the space on the rider floorboard. It's called Extended Brake Lever and it costs $135 plus shipping.
I've also seen two mods: one involves cutting and narrowing the foot pedal itself, and the other involves the manufacture and installation of a mounting bracket which moves the master cylinder and brake assembly forward approximately 1.5 inches.
Of the three solutions, I really like the SoftBrake solution best, but I have a problem paying $135 for a brake lever.
Is there a longer brake lever on another Yammy model that will fit our Road*?
Thanks for any help or insights.

Post edited by: 06MidnightStar, at: 2006/11/17 16:31

I don't think so but that deosn't mean there isn't. I cut my pedal shorter and adjusted it up higher. Isn't in the way at all. If you don't want to cut your stock pedal you can get a pedal for a 1100. I know this doen't move it forward like you want but it does get it out of the way.

I made the bracket to extend the pedal and master out 1.5" and cut the pedal down. the only thing I really dont like about the bracket is it pushed the master out to and it looks like its just out there unprotected and out of place. as far as lowering the floor board I extended mine forward and raised them some and I still drag them all the time. I havent seen the new extended pedal, but might do a search for it. The new pedal sounds like the best plan even though paying $135 kinda does suck.

I was the one who wrote (or perhaps re-wrote) the post a while back on cutting down your brake pedal. I have to be honest, I think it is the quickest, easiest & potentially safest way to make some "foot room" on the boards. I didn't want to mess with the floorboard mounts too much as I have seem a guy break off a footpeg while riding and it just about killed him (although it was on a sportbike where you have a lot more of your weight on the pegs). I don't like the idea of raising it because I don't want to be in an emergency situation and have to pull my toes out from under it to get on the brakes fast. Extending it seems like an OK idea but I think I would wind up resting my foot on it and wearing the pads & rotor out. With the way I have my setup done all I have to do is turn my foot in an inch and I'm on the brake pedal, ready to brake HARD if need be.
I'm going to the garage right now with my digital camera to take some pics and I'll post them for all !
Just my $0.02 worth.

Here are a couple pictures of the brake pedal mod. Note that you can barely see the seam where I cut the rubber. I have put about 1500 miles on this pedal so far with no problems.

I'm thinking of cutting my brake pedal bracket and welding a 1 1/2" extension on the bracket and painting it black. Saves $135 over purchasing an extended bracket, the master cylinder stays where it is and I can re-use my stock pedal.
Any reason why this isn't a good idea? (as long as the weld is good, that is)
