3 things that cause it. None are coverd by warranty. Even where they say the oil level stated in the book is the max and you should put in a half qt less. I don't remember it saying anything about putting in a half qt less.

"Your dealership could be at risk if you knowingly assist the customer with illegal tampering".
That means if your dealer puts on the pipes, airbox, jets and you get sticky valves your screwed. Yami won't give a s--t!

Hey RK

They have their ass covered very well. SVS can be caused by warming the bike up wrong. OK. Your bike is 100% stock. Your dealer at the whatever mile service put in the non published 1/2 qt less. You get SVS. What does Yami say? You have been warming it up wrong.

It's a tech bulletin to the dealers. 3 things cause SVS. Boiled down -
1. Pipes, airbox, jetting ( They even list Mik and Dyno jet sizes)
2 - Engine oil level too high. They recommend that the dealer puts in 1/2 qt less than what they tell us to put in.
3. Warming up the bike improperly. Very presice times for full and 1/2 choke.

After the mod write up they have - "Performance problem caused by engine modifications are not a warrantable defect".

After the oil write up - "Performance problems caused by too high of a oil level are not a warrantable defect".

After the warm up write up - "Running issues caused by insufficient warm up are not a warrantable defect".

Well looks like the Road Star clinic has a lot of members who could potentially be charged with "AIDING AND ABETTING"

Looks like and underground organization to me

Surprise , surprise. Fill me in, what is there warm up recommendations?

Curious, does this include the stuff THEY sell in the star catalog that I recieved from THEM shortly after I purchased my bike new? Like POPs pipe, love it , almost bought it, thats a star product. They're speaking out of both sides of their mouth.

Post edited by: Big Bear, at: 2007/03/09 22:57

First I'll say that "Very precise" might not be the correct term but you better have a stop watch and a witness.

This next statement is the end all cover their ass, we aint gonna fix it, F--k you part of this whole thing.

" Even with a stock unit and the correct oil level insuffcient warm up causes a variety of running issues including: stalling during acceleration, low idle speed, and backfire from the intake."

Choke recommendations - Starting a cold engine - full choke for "7 to 35 seconds" depending on the air temp. Then 1/2 choke for another "2 1/2 minutes or so". After that the engine must be allowed to continue to warm up until it has rapid throttle responce with the choke all the way in and idles at normal speed. This can take another few minutes (Up to 10 minutes or even longer in very cold temps)
