just one starter spin 3 Years ago
I have a question about my '03 wild star (1600 engine and a six years old battery...).
When I turn on my bike, the starter only takes one spin (just every now and then, not always) then it stops immediately even if I hold the starter button on. I wait 5-10 seconds, then re-push the starter button, and the second time the starters makes his job.
Is it the old battery?

Mine does that once in a while. Same thing on other bikes I have owned. But at six years old your battery is probably on the verge of leaving you some place you don't want to be left at.

Mine too, I believe it is because sometimes a piston is positioned coming up on the compression stroke when you go to start it, I may be wrong.....

Re:just one starter spin 3 Years ago
Had it happen a time or two, and yeh, it's related to a piston compressing just as the starter is getting up to speed, and it doesn't have the torque to overcome it. That's why, when you wait a few seconds, the compression leaks down, and you get just about the optimum time for the starter to get up to full crank and do its thing... also, if your battery is old and losing some of its oomph, you can get the same effect... only more frequently, like you're experiencing now. It's probably due... replace it.

thanks to all!
Cougar, mine is still the stock battery (Yuasa)
I'm going to replace it with another yuasa as soon as possible. I will go in Iceland this summer, and I don't like the idea of being stuck in the middle of nowhere
