It's the nature of the beast I've had a hard time dealing with it.when hot and in traffic is the only time mine really starts to rattle.I have noticed some more vibration trough the bars though, I replaced stock silverado bars with yami t-bars and def. feel more through the bars. any body noticed this with t-bars

The T-bars may not have weights on the ends of the bars as the OEM bars have .... that's why you may be feeling more vibrations.

If there is nothing wrong with the bike then that's your problem.

I've ridden many air cooled bikes but the one I had before the R* was water cooled and when I road the R* home from the dealer I thought it was loud.

I don't think they did. also they came with sleeves that slid into the rubber. did not have that with the other bars thought maybe with cable guides still in place that they might not be as rubber mounted as the should be? does that make sense bottom plate tightened against triple tree?.....Randy

The doubt the cable guide does anything besides keep the cables in place ... it's too flimsy to be a dampner.

If the bars did not come with bar weights, buy some round stock and tack weld them into the ends of the bars. If you don't have that ability then get some lead shot, put it into a bag and stuff it into the ends of the bars.

I've been anxious to get on another brand/model and finally got the oppurtunity the past few weeks. The chatter is there on the Harleys too but a little less metallic than my Roadie. Have to say I really enjoyed the Road Star torgue riding home though. The Road King didn't seem to have it dowm low.

But the Roadliner was a different matter. Much quieter than both and boy did it pull down low. Nice effort on Star's part.

But that's to be expected .... an engine larger than I have in one of my cars in an 800# vehicle.

I just heard that Yamaha has a solution for all the Roadie engine noise complaints. They are going to require all Roadie buyers to ride a H-D Shovel for a week before taking delivery of a R*.

I really like Shovels but you would think they are about to come apart anytime they are running. A Road Star is quiet and smooth... compared.

Lol, that'll do it for sure. The only time my '73 ran smooth and quiet was when it died and coasted to a stop.

Sounds like this issue of noise and vibration has been beat to death, but having just bought a 03 Roadstar its all new to me. Coming from a VTX I though that something was horribly wrong with the bike. I expected the sewing maching sounds but the knock after she heats up has got me a bit concerned. Just how much of a knock is normal and when is it not.
