New Progressive 420 Series Shock 3 Years ago
I purchased and installed a new 420 shock three days ago and did the Relay Arm grind and flip. Grind and Flip

The grinding was a bear and time-consuming and I wondered why all the metal had to be removed from the arms of the relay. I couldn't see any interference after installation. Maybe someone can clarify the need.

I also found the bearings in the relay arm in need of deep cleaning and new grease.

I could not adjust the spring prior to install, since I could not control the twisting of the 420. I installed it with the spring in the center of the threaded adjusting area and the cam on setting #3.

The bike looked very cool lowered, but after a ride I decided the flip was not for me -- too low & bottoming out. Removed and re-reversed the relay and adjusted the 420 cam to setting #1 and the spring out to the end just before it was turning freely on the shock. It's hard to adjust with the tool they provide and the dog bones in place.

The ride is much better now and I'm happy with the 420. My stock shock was worn out and soft/bouncy. I like a soft ride, but the 420 does let me feel the road adequately and it takes the bumps on Jersey roads much better. I think the worn out stocker was bottoming out on the bumps which made them harder on me.

I have some pics, but I don't think they will serve any purpose here.

ordered a set of the 420's myself (before they went off sale) and was waiting for your post. I think my stock shock has also seen its better days. the 420 should arrive the end of next week or the beginning of the following week.
