Re:Vibration 5 Years, 2 Months ago
Beefcake,
I really haven't found anything exact yet. I can raise the RPM about 100 or 200 rpm and it goes away, or slow the engine a touch and same thing.

I checked exhaust bolts and all were tight. Am changing the oil in the AM so will be looking at engine mounting bolts just for kicks.

I still am not sure that there is anything I can do about it. I was talking to a guy today that is a pretty good wrench. He has an '04 Roadie with a stage 4 kit and said with the dyna 3000 his vibe is gone. He suggested I try a Yamie performance ignition pack he took off his when installing the dyna and thinks that could solve the problem. That would suggest engine timing.

Until I get more time to investigate, I am thinking that anything I do might only change when it vibrates.

Don't know yet. No worse than it is, could be neck bearings, front tire, engine mounts, the list goes on.

If I find anything I can be sure about, I will post it.

John

Re:Vibration 5 Years, 2 Months ago
Thanks Beefcake.

I think I am becomming obsessed. I changed the oil and filter yesterday, checked the engine mounts ( tight), checked the exhaust pipe bolts (found 1 a little loose), washed the bike real good ( to get rid of mud on tires, balance) and then rode it for about 85 miles city and hiway.

It feels to me the better this thing starts to run, the more it vibrates. That is the obsession I am referring to. Probably because I am running the RPM's higher, I notice it more.

I will find it, so I try not to worry. BUT no matter the vibration, there is a six mile stretch of 40 mph "S" curves just south of my house that this thing will lean back and forth through at 65 mph that just gets me so hi I can't quit going back. It doesn't try to cross the line, it doesn't try to slide, it doesn't scare you, just fun, fun, fun.

So tightening that one exhaust bolt didn't cure your vibe? I guess the only other alternative now is to live with it....these bikes like to vibrate. I honestly don't think I could go to a smooth running cruiser like a Goldwing or something of that nature, cuz I just like the way my bike runs for god sakes....WAHOO!!!! Shew....I feel better now that I got that off my chest.

I guess I am spoiled. I love the bike, except for the vibration. Rode 120 miles today and the bike now has a little over 600 miles on it. My last bike was a honda VTX1300. Not the raw power of this bike, but smooooooth. Im going to struggle with this vibration. Reading all the post I could about it, seems it's normal.

Javawave, sounds like you're still breaking her in. The Vibes with probably subside a little after a couple thousand miles, but some is inherent, with the single pen crankshaft design. I came off a Shadow onto a Roadie, took a little getting used to , now if my scoot wasn't wagging her tail (as my wife calls it ), I'd think something was wrong. It's all what you get used to , I guess. BB

I also had a Shadow Sabre 1100. It was smooth as a babies butt. No guts though. I got tired having to hammer it to keep up on group rides. different animal than this bike, it was a higher RPM bike. didnt come to life until higher RPM.

Yeah, Sabre here as well. Found my Dyno run sheet for my Sabre the other day, those bikes redlined at like 6500 rpms, better than 2000 more than the Roadie. You'd have to stop to pick up important parts that rattled off , if the Roadies rev'd that high. BB
