Accel Duration Screw: OEM Setting 5 Years, 2 Months ago
Roadies:

I've searched the Clymer repair manual and the Yamaha service manual and can find no reference to the Accel Duration Screw or its OEM setting.

Does anyone know the OEM setting for the Accel Duration Screw on a 2004-up Road* and where that info can be found?

Thanks for any help.

Musky:

I have a sinking feeling that you may be on to something. I just read the article in Tech Tips which demonstrates how to adjust the accelerator pump. Sounds like a good place to start unless someone else chimes in soon.

Thanks!

06, I'm not sure what you're trying to achive, but I can tell you alot of guys turn that screw down substantially from its stock location to help with fuel milage, as well as the stalling effect from blipping their throttles.Don't know if that info helps you at all, just passing it along.BB

I have '04' Silverado (bought new) and had the backfire syndromefrom day one. Took it back to the dealer and they turned that accel dur. screw out as far as possible(they even moved the set nut to the other side of the tang to get that extra 1/4" of adjustment) and no change good or bad. I played with it myself and really doesn't seem to chage a damn thing. What are we trying to accomplish? I have the shop manual at home-the one that the techs use. I'll see if I can find the factory setting for you 06.

the accel duration screw will make no difference to backfiring, and if the mechanic at your dealer thinks it would, i´d have doubts about their competence.

the accel pump basically squirts a shot of gas into the throat of the carb when you whack the throttle open to aid initial response that would be slow without it.

after checking for inlet/exhaust manifold leaks, the first thing on the carb to try is the P.M.S. screw (underside of the carb, in between the heater connections).

normally a quarter turn out stops the backfiring, but this does vary depending on the filter/exhaust configuration you have

edit - if it is farting back through the carb, could be the accel screw setting, and apologies to your dealer.

Post edited by: erizo, at: 2007/03/15 06:24

Adjusting the accel pump will affect the blipping backfire like BB said but if its backfiring on decel, like erizo said check for exhaust leaks then adjust your pms....and removing the "AIS" will also help as well......Coug

Big Bear:

What you've said confirms what I've read on the forums, but I'm more interested in the OEM setting, if there even IS one.

Thanks.
