OEM/Bridgestone Tires 5 Years, 2 Months ago
Greetings All,
As I'm new to the Road Star Clinic this may be a topic that's already been discussed but I'll ask anyway. I've got an '05 Road Star with just over 11,000 miles. I replaced the rear tire last fall but the front still has plenty of tread. However, yesterday while cleaning/PMing the bike I noticed a coutinuous crack around the entire tire, on both sides, about a quarter of an inch below the edge of the tread. This doesn't look like typical dry-rot damage and besides, it's only 2 years old. I'm not a fan of Bridgestone tires as that was what was OEM on my Vulcan also and didn't get much wear/life on them either. My question is , has anyone else experienced this type of wear/damage and is it typical of Bridgestones? And since I'm sure this will be one of the first questions I get, yes, I keep the tire pressure at 36psi.

Thanks in advance!

In The Wind!
Aaron

Welcome 2005Roadstar ....I had to replace my rear bridgestone at 6500 miles , it was shot. plenty of tread on the front still, I didnt have the cracks but my front tire had a bunch of little flat spots in the center of the tread. Doesnt soumd to safe to run with those cracks all the way around though. I switched to metzler 880's. seems to be the tire of choice in here. They do feel alot better on the road . Only have 1000 miles on them so I cant say anything about the wear yet, but I'm sure you'll get some response in here about all options and the problem your having. P.S. the U.P.S. truck just left, ...wife just shook her head... nice! look at all the new chrome

You're running tubeless. Nothing holding the air in but the tire. Replace it.

Thanks for the input. Yes, I'm going to replace it, I was just curious if this was possibly a defect in the tire. As for replacement tires, I'm going with Continental Milestones. I ran them on my Vulcan and got very good wear.

Thanks again.

Speaking of tires.. I think I have the original Dunlop tires on my 03 Roadie, I bought her used with 4000 miles. I am just a little over 11,000. Both tires seem to be evenly worn, but the tread is getting thin in the middle. My question is what should be normal mileage on a set. I don't like taking chances. I going to replace both tires in the next few weeks.

i normally get around 10,000 miles out of a set of tyres. when the back one is low enough to change, i still have a bit more on the front (but not much) so i change as a set

D404´s suck on roadstars, but are more reliable than bridgestone cruiser tyres.

I seem to have the opposite problem with my tires than everyone else. I have a 2005 Roadie, with the OEM Bridgestones on it. I'm at about 7700 miles and my FRONT tire is pretty well worn, rear tire has a fair amount of tread left on it. I guess the rest of you are doing burnouts while I'm always trying to dig it hard into every turn I can I saw that Michelin makes a tire that will fit but have never heard anyone here talk about them. I wonder how they hold up compared to Metzelers. If anyone has run Michelins, let me know how what you think of them.

Thanks.
