And, to add one more thing...

Even with a radical change to the air intake system, the 2008 FI runs perfectly without an aftermarket management system (Cobra, PCIII, etc.). It seems to compensate just fine.
I still believe those are for non-fuel injected configurations only.

And, simply unplugging the 02 sensors to make them work (when there probably wasn't a problem to begin with) just doesn't make any sense to me. But, it's your bike, so more power to you... I just hope they don't pull the Cobra off, plug in the 02 sensors and trailer it to the dealer after the motor blows, acting all confused...

I look at like having a new car with navigation, but trusting some off-brand $99.00 GPS to get you somewhere important. Yamaha did a great job on programming of this one. I don't know why you'd want to over-ride it with programming that obviously went through limited testing...

Save your $ and buy some chrome...

Just my .02

Yes, and just to be clear (I forgot to mention it earlier) I removed the Cobra Computer this morning - the 75 mile run was on the Roadstar's ECU and it did a wonderful job. Like it was designed to do!

Cobra claims they are for Fuel-injected models with O2 sensors - the product I had was the Fi (Fuel injection) 2000 R O2 (Oxygen Sensors), so again, why it didn't work is beyond me.

I agree, I would never run my bike open loop, when it is designed to operate in a closed loop configuration.

Anyway, it's gone, and my bike is back working off it's own computer, which, BTW, must have the complete stoichiometric curve in memory or it wouldn't be able to do what it does.

I appreciate your .02

Bogey:

The Tech Articles section has a complete write-up on how to do that. Most all have already done it.

Hey Rich, how are you today?

I've noticed the '08 has a slightly different AIS - I can't even find the manifold port. Is there another procedure (with pics) that one could follow? Any surprises to look out for?

Byron:

You figured it out. We don't have a manifold port. Just the two cylinder block off plates.

You can pull the whole AIS off and tuck the wiring plug up under the tank when you're done.

There's a main canister, a couple of hoses and the chrome tubing that connects to the cylinder. The part behind the chrome cover just has to be moved out of the way to get the block off plates installed.

Your bike will love you for it...

Shoot me a PM if you get stuck.

If for warranty reasons you want the AIS disabled but not removed and 'looking' stock, just remove the rectifier to get it out of the way temporarily,
cut the two AIS hoses and plug all 4 ends. Then you can use black tape or large shrink tubing to make them look like they are still intact. Replace the rectifier and you are ready to ride!

Hi Rich,

Thanks for the info. I looked again today for the elusive manifold port - glad to know it doesn't exist - I was thinking I couldn't see the hoses for all the hoses.

So . . . apparently (I did something stupid) the rectifier stays. I unplugged the two plugs and went for a ride - not good - she died on me.

Question: Does your bike have two plugs at the rectifier? And only one is from the AIS, right?

Also, did you have to remove the covers off the elbows (at the cylinder head) to cover the block off plates?
