Fuel Pump Re-Location, Front end rattle 2 Years, 8 Months ago

Two more things:
1). Have any of you relocated the fuel pump on an '08? Since there isn't a fuel shut off on the tank, how did you pull the line and avoid a "gas bath"?
2). Rode on a rough road this afternoon. I know everyone has been talking about the headlight rattle, passing lamp rattle, etc. Has anyone noticed a front brake rattle? I took a large rubber mallet and bumped the front of the front tire to simulate a rough road.....the rattle was exactly what I heard on my ride. After some more bumping, I located what appears to be the cause....the front brake pads! When I put my hand on them, the rattle quit.... Am I the only one to find this, or has it been discussed before? It's pretty loud, and I would love to know if anybody has a fix.

The 08 is fuel injection. The pump and stuff is inside the tank.

Seriously? So what's under the left cover?

That I'm not sure of. Fuel filter maybe. Someone with an 08 will hop in. So just consider this a bump.

OK...well, that might definitely conflict with my plan to relocate the fuel pump!!! Now, has anyone noticed front brake pads rattling? I couldn't believe it until I found the problem. How could it be fixed? They have to "float" a little, so how do you keep them from shaking?

Are you sure it's the pad, not the rotors that you hear?
If it's the pads, did someone forget to install the 'springs'.
Lastly .... try a coating of brake grease between the pad and the caliper.

Good point Doc. I'll check the rotors, and try the grease of that isn't it.

I have an 09 with 1000 miles on it and the pads rattled almost from the start. Doc is right about the grease. The bike is a rattle factory, I have never had a bike that made as much noise as this one!

Did you try the grease? And if so, did it help?
