The newer bike should handle better, also the engine is FI if I remember which is going to make the power transfer a little, whats a good way to say it, smoother? Which makes you think the bike is handling better.
Lots of improvements on the newer bikes, old 1600's are just what they are, big ol air guzzling twin. Great bikes in their own right. But you can't really compare an older 1600 to a new 1700 and wonder why you like the 1700 better...
