In the picture below you can see the rear fender is up for tire removal. You just loosen the bolt for the fender under the seat and remove the two bolts that go to the rear where the tool bag sits. Fender pops up and you can change tire with it on the kickstand. (long as you have the other side blocked up. The 4X8 thing works perfect. Glad you escaped damage, try this next time though but remember to tighten that sub frame both 3 xs as tight as it calls for. If it's loose it will sound just like shock bottoming out.
