More than likely it's the sending unit. Mine does the same thing. When I fill the tank the fuel light starts blinking and the guage stays at "Empty". Then after about 20 miles/half a gallon of gas the light stops blinking and the guage starts to register. I pulled the sending unit and ohmed it out and it shows an open contact at the "full" end of the contacts. I tried cleaning the contacts but it didn't help, so eventually I'll get around to replacing the sending unit. Good luck!

I almost forgot; as for the sending unit, the cheapest place I've found to get it is online at www.teamalpine.com for $54.08. They seem to have good prices on all their Yamaha accessories. For example, the Competition Ignition Module that lists for $299.99 in the Yamaha catalog, they sell for $260.

Sounds like a place where I'd buy my ski equipment.
