Take the bar ends off. Use compressed air to get the left grip off. On the right side (throttle) open up the switch housing and separate it. The cables will "stay" in the old grip housing until removed. I use a flat screwdriver or GENTLY use a pair of needle nose pliers to unhook the cables from the old grip. Then I put the new grip on the throttle side and re-install the cables in their correct area (It's a no brainer-really), and put the switch housing back together. Glue the left side to the bar, the right side floats, but I figure you already know that. Probably take about an hour , maybe two. Hope that helps. BB

Just like BB said but don't use the super glue that comes with the grips. I bought grip glue, didn't work grip would rotate because I have throttle bosses on both grips. I tried several other glues none worked. Doc had suggested weather strip adheasive. I bought some 3-M and that did the trick this is the first day I rode that the left didn't turn on me. Thanks Doc!

Something nobody ever mentions, but has come up a couple of times in this forum regarding grip replacement. It may seem silly, but I will say it anyway. When you are trying to get the cable out of the throttle grip make sure your handle bars are turned to the right. This will give you the needed slack in the cable. If you have them turned to the left as you will to access the screws underneath the switch housing the cable will be pulled taught and will not provide the needed slack to get the cable ends out. So simple no one thinks to mention it, but I have seen several struggle to get the cables out with the bars turned to the left.

It is an easy job and took me under 30 minutes to do. I used the glue with the ISO grips and have had no issue. Make sure you clean the inside of the grip with alcohol and sand the bars lightly and then clean with alcohol before gluing to make sure you get good clean contact.

Do a search on grips here in the forums. I posted a YouTube link on the subject last week. or you can search YouTube for Grips, and Vstar. Its a step by Step video of the process

That youtube video is great. Find it and you'll realize it's silly to pay a dealer.

cheap hairspray holds the grips on pretty good and you can still take them off if you want too later
