Crankcase vent preassure 2 Years, 8 Months ago
08 R* seemed to be running rough (excessive vibration). Took it to dealer they said my imigination. When I got home I noticed oil all down the exhaust side. pulled the airbox cover and started it. I have preassure from the crankcase vent. It puffs with timing of the engine. It had oil all in the box and like I said on my bike. I have worked on cars all my life but this is my first v-twin. This is surely not normal is it?

Have you changed your oil yet and just added 4 qts? Since I've done that I haven't had any problems with excessive oil in the breather.

I just had the dealership change the oil (hard to beat at $45). I understand a little but the preassure coming out of it I dont think is right.

I see you have the Khrome Werks slip ons Tom. I had those but the rear one kept turning purple. I bought a new one in case it was leaking but it did it also. I just had a set ov VH Bigshots put on it. They have a full heat shield so I shouldnt have to worry about them discoloring.

Find out how much they put back in. If it's too much you will have excessive oil coming out from there. There is a service bulletin to not use more than 4qts, maybe less.. The bulletin came out a while ago 2yrs maybe, was due because they thought the oil level was a possible cause to sticky valve . I would think that it still applies to the newest models too, but, not sure if corrected oil levels are now in the new service manual. And there is a bit of pressure out of there too.

I know they had a problem putting oil in. The tech thought it was too low so he rode it a little and put more in. That was about 3 weeks ago and the problem just got bad in the last couple days. I took it in because it backfired a couple times and is vibrating a lot more than usual (at least it seams to me). When I got home is when I noticed the oil down the side.

You say the dealership had a problem putting oil in? Then the tech "thought" it was too low and put more oil in?

Run for your life buddy!

If it were me, I'd chalk the $ up as a lesson learned about some dealerships and immediately change the oil again yourself, correctly this time.

My 2 cents (for what that's worth) ....greeny

I havent been happy with the service department. The tech said he thought their metering device on the bulk oil had a low battery. I think you may be right. But if their is a problem I am going to make them fix it. The bike is 2 months out of warranty. Thanks for the link to the srvice flier.
