Disconcerting Info 5 Years, 1 Month ago
Hey fellow Roadie owners. My ride is an '05 purchased in '06.Put 60000km on it last season and love the bike but some of the information that I've seen on the forum is very disconcerting.I was hoping to have many miles of carefree riding but some of the posts about sticky valves, carburator problems etc.,have made me wonder whether or not I've made the right choice for a ride!!!!! mechanic

You're telling me you put on 60000 Km on the bike last season, had no problems and are worried?

Ahh .... about what?

It's say you've had a lot of trouble-free miles already.

Not to worry If you go to any forum for any bike you will read about issues. The sticky valves show up in a very small percentage of Roadies. A lot of times when you hear it mentioned it is in the context of just something to check for when someone is having a certain issue. But it is something that does exist and Yamhah should do something about it. The carb problem is a strange one but there is nothing saying it will happen to you. Mine doesn't do it. And you have to factor in human nature. You hear from the people having trouble. The people with no problems aren't talking about them. So it seems like these problems are a given because everyone you hear from has them. And also though we don't like to admit it, alot of our problems are brought on by us messing with the bike Enjoy. You got a keeper

Or I could have just said this the short to the point way like Doc just did

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2007/04/08 11:56

I don't know much about those km's you speak of but that seems to be quite a bit any way ya look at it. As for the sticky valve issue, I think it's taken on a life of it's own personally. Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see a leaking tire get blamed on sticky valves one of these days.

Just for info 8 km = 5 miles.

So 60000 km is about 38000 miles.

If you've done 38000 miles with hardly a maintenance issue that is VERY good. As others have said, most posts are people looking for help with a problem, however the biggest percentage of us have no problems. I agree some times I read the forum and think this bike is junk with all these problems. Of those problems though most seem to stem from modifying the engine and just trying to get everything tweaked in. I never buy a first year product, but these engines are pretty tried and true at this point. There will always be a bug here and there, and this forum is where you will here about them.

There is nothing like a Road Star, and as one of the complainers about the Gas Puking carb, it is still not enough of a problem to keep me from loving my scooter. Every bike I have owned had its issues, some worse than others. Every car I have owned has its issues some worse than others. I have 7,500 miles on my scoot and it pukes once in a while. I will file a complaint with the NHTSA and let them know and I have spoken with my very confused dealer... Wit proper maintenance the Roadie will be a keeper and give its rider many many miles of realtively trouble free riding.
