Re:how to fill the tank all the way up 3 Years ago
I did mine late in the evening, thought I had enough light from the outside floods, but couldn't see a darn thing inside the neck, punched 4 holes criss cross from each other "Blind". Looked at it the next day when I got gas, it was perfect, took me 2 or 3 minutes from the time I grabbed my awl.

Very easy to do, fills right up now, don't have to sit there and "Burp" it to get more in.

I just got the same result. No more fill...wait...fill...wait...fill...etc. Filled it up to the joint halfway down the tube and it stayed. Yowza!

It's a worth while mod. Nothing saying you have to fill it up all the way at every fill but it's nice to be able to when you want.

I agree. Just knowing that we can (without mucking anything up) makes another little success story.

Gidday chico...go back and have a look at Musky's response on this thread. In particular, the link he attached. http://www.star-riders.org/starcruiser/volume1-6/tank.html

It's all about getting the air out of the top of the tank when you're filling her up....and replacing the air with fuel. The filler tube acts to block the air in and the tank vent is too restrictive.

Does anyone have pictures or can explain in detail how to do this? This "neck punch" link is dead. I'd like to do this on my R* and my wife's V*, if I'll work. I've had the same problem filling her V*. It use to be mine and I've overflown it more then once. How frustrating.
Thanks,
Will

Real simple... the metal of the filler neck that extends down into the tank is really quite soft. Just take an awl and punch 4 holes in it around the top of that neck. Let's it breathe while you're filling, and you can fill it to the top, get an extra half gallon or more in it.

Oh, but don't fill it and then park it... fill it full if you're about to go off and ride.

I did mine in the dark, it's that easy! A good sharp awhl and a quick tap with the hammer and done!

Nope, up towards the top of the neck, just enough to let air out as it fills. You still need to slow down the pump as you get close to full, but it allows you to fill her up to the top. And like someone else said, don't fill it to the top and then park it, only when you are going to ride. I get 200 miles from a FULL tank all the time now.
