Another AIS Question 5 Years, 1 Month ago
From what I've been reading, it seems the main reason for removing the AIS is to eliminate back-firing and popping on deceleration. If this is the case, and I did have that problem but getting the carb rejetted took care of it, what other benefits, other than cosmetic, are to be gained by removal of the AIS? And since it's already been rejetted, will removal of the AIS mean I need to rejet again?
Thanks!!

In The Wind,
Aaron

If you have no pop'in, then removing the AIS for you would be purely cosmetic and no it won't effect your jetting at all.

Aaron:

Removing the AIS relieves the popping on decel as a fringe benefit; however, the primary purpose is to clean up the front and left side of the bike.

I just completed that task myself, last weekend, and the Road* does have cleaner look now.

It also makes the engine much easier to clean, if you're a "neat and clean" fanatic like me.

Thanks.

Aaron....the reasons I removed mine were the neater look from the side the front cylinder has a more define look and to me that big piece of craps removal allows more direct air to cool my motor as well.... can not prove it does but it made me feel better but then I attached a stebil horn to the brackets .....Coug

Post edited by: Cougar, at: 2007/04/11 17:47

Thanks guys! I've been reading over the articles on AIS removal in the Tech Tips and it sounds like a pretty straight-forward operation. And I agree; it will definitely clean up the motor quite a bit. Thanks again!!
