Need help with roadhouse dooleys install. 1 Month, 1 Week ago
Install going ok until number 11 on instruction sheet which states: Mount cross over pipe with cross over heat shield with 2heavy duty inch hose clamps mounted in bracket to heat shield and mount hose clamp over head pipe.

Can some help me with this un-expliced terminology? do they mean 2 regular hose clamps through the brackets in the heat shield and a heavy duty clamp over just the cross over intersection? Since I have 3 heavy duty clamps, 2 of which are clearly for the end pipes, is that where the 3rd one goes?

then that heat shield has three brackets, so which two do I use? Help!

I just readjusted mine yesterday, so I had a fresh look at the setup. The heavy duty clamps should go where the pipe meets the muffler. The other clamps just clamp down the heat shield in various places. I know that there are 3 clamps for the crossover heat shield (1 at each end, and 1 about where the downward bend is). I think the end nearest the right side of the bike calls for 2 1/4" clamp... I found that to be a little too long, and replaced it with a 1.5" clamp. No biggie - just do whatever it takes to clamp it down. To be honest, I went to the hardware store and replaced ALL the clamps with more heavy duty ones.

Take your time man... make sure your heat shield is twisted and wiggled enough to create the most possible amount of clearance in the crossover/side cover area. If properly aligned, there should be about 3/16" to 1/4" clearance from the side covers.

Let me know if you have any other questions, or if you need me to take any specific pics for you.

Thanks for the come back DrumDon. those clamps look like they are going to be fun to tighten in that area.

The instructions require a little "interpretation"...

Good advice to take your time and get the right clamps in the right place. HD clamps to hold on the mufflers only. The rest are just for the headshields. Position them in a way that when they start to tighten, you can reach them with a small socket and extension.

When you pull past a group of Harley guys, watch and you'll see their heads bob. Then, you know you have one of the best sounding bikes around...

The dual-look is certainly the cause of many a "woody"...

When I installed mine, I connected everything loosely and lastly tightened everything up after I liked its positioning. Take your time and a 1/4" ratchet and thumb ratchet helped.

Roger that scotto, I think I am going to buy some 1.5" clamps, those clamps are just too long and very hard to pass through the bracket. DrumDon is right.

By the way, their is a dent in my cross over heat shield, near the end, thought it was their for a purpose, but I think I can knock it out.

I agree with Scotto, I have recently installed my RH dooleys and I found that taking your time, keeping things loose until the last minute and tighten at the last minute makes all the difference in the world. The sound is worth the time all by itself.

I know this is gonna chap some butts in here, but I actually wish my Roadhouse Duals were just a tad MORE quiet. I've repacked the mufflers, but now they seem to be right back to what they were.

Maybe a note to the guys at Roadhouse is in order.
