Max Air - Do I have to remap? 2 Years, 3 Months ago
I love the Max-Air intake But I have a quick question: I plan to install it on a 2008 star. Is it imperative that I also drop another $300.00 to bring my fuel injection up to speed....or will it perform o.k. without? Then of course I will need to upgrade my pipes.......

I know the extra air will not be fully utilized without adjusting fuel, losing the stock exhaust, etc. but right now my boss isn't too keen on dropping that much cash. So should I save up for the whole project, or can I enjoy the max-air now and do the other changes later?

Others that know will pipe in but I believe the general consensus is that the ECU will adjust for it with no problem.

If you make a change where the injection should be remaped and you don't have it done you simply won't get the full benifit of the change. However, when you are planning several changes it won't hurt to get them all done and then remap once for the whole thing.

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought. My main concern is that my girl keeps running great like it is now. There is nothing more frustrating than making "Improvements", then spending additional time and money getting her to run like it USED to!!!

I put on a K&N BAK and Speedstar dragster long exhaust on my '08 last fall. No remapping or anything else needed. The ECU adjusts itself and you can feel the difference in power. Don't forget to bypass or remove the AIS or when you put aftermarket pipes on it will backfire like crazy. I'm totally pleased with how the bike performs. Happy Ridin'!

Thanks guys. I removed the AIS months ago, so it looks like I'm gonna try the Air-Max....I'll let you know how it works. God, this is fun
