They sound great when i throttle up and in low gear but when i am crusing in a high gear they seem to backfire. Moderator Posts: 3178 Re:Backfiring 2 Years, 3 Months ago   You want to make sure there are no air leaks between the headers and the Khrome Werks. Be sure the everything's tight, even where the headers are fastened to the exhaust ports. Mine will pop a little when I decelerate from 1st, 2nd or 3rd, but not much. I had stock pipes and punched them and then had my bike re jetted because of a K and N air box. I also removed my AIS. I then bought a new set of Khrome Werks for a Road Star. I had severe backfiring and popping. I recently put my stock pipes back on. A mechanic friend of mine said that the Khrome Werks probaly needed the carbs to be rejetted but he was unsure of the correct jets to use. Moderator Posts: 3178 Re:Backfiring 2 Years, 3 Months ago   Shouldn't need to rejet just for slipons or swapping out the OEM pipes entirely. Stock mufflers mute the popping due to re-routing the exhaust with the baffles and pipe configuration. Like I said earlier, a little adjustment of the PMS might be needed, but not usually. Once I removed the AIS 99% of the popping stopped for me. I first noticed it when i drilled out my stock exaust to a stage 2, but didnt have a problem with popping. Riding into work this morning in 40 degree F was very cold but i noticed it was popping when i was sitting at lights. One port is for fuel bowl vent, the other is the plastic 90 degree tube that is for the slide chamber vent, both stay open to air. With AIS removal there is a vacuum port on the manifold that has to be capped. at 40deg it will take a good ten minutes for the engine to be fully and properly warmed. Gas does not atomize as well in cold temps, hence you are in a slightly leaner condition until engine is warmed, you might want to try turning out the pilot screw 1/8 to 1/4 turn, this will provide a little more gas to have a chance to atomize. Also keep in mind that some pipes will pop more than others.   Logged       The administrator has disabled public write access.
