Go to 30% off Yamaha Parts and plug in YAMAHA, MOTORCYCLE, YEAR, and MODEL motorcycle.

When the OEM parts listing comes up, it will show "Camshft Chain."

Click on the pic to enlarge and look up the # of the cams. It is number 5 on the list. (See below for one cam)

Haha, I did exactly that, but somehow didn't see it. Thanks much.

Do a search on lifter there was a thread that give the part number for jeep lifters that fit the R* at a lot cheaper price. I think Doc knows what it is maybe he will chime in.

there are 2 cams with hydrualic lifters you can buy a new set from a dealer for around $450.00 you can go to the auto store and get jeep lifters for around $7.00each or depending on how bad your cam was damaged you can have it reground for $250.00 for the set over on Looneys site thats what i did this summer when i lost the oil pump gear which took out a lifter but it is an easy job and the dealear is screwing you on parts and labor and if it is apart you should look at the oil pump gear to be sure it's the new style

Nasomi... if you go to the Looney's forum over on Delphi... you can get the cam exchange with mild to wild grinds on the cams for $250... and If im not mistaken, a small block chevy lifter drops right into the Road Star... Cyberchef is taking care of things now that Looney has passed... give him a shout...

Thank's for the info. I'm not familiar with looney's forum. A slightly more agressive cam profile might be of interest. I have to get the cam out and take a look and see how damaged it is, if it can be reground, if it's shot, or if they were feeding me a line of crap and it's just hte lifter that's shot.

Just look up any 318 or 340 mopar for the lifters. Many other Mopars use them but that narrows it down a bit. Stock lifters are not made in Japan for these bikes. They are made here in the good ‘ol USA. Most engineers over there consider a push rod engine inferior, and they are for the most part compared to over head cam engines. Pushrod tubes just look so darn cool to us though, I wouldn't have it any other way.

The cam lobe and lifter rub together, and when one goes it takes the other with it. When you replace a cam also replace every lifter that it operates. If you don't you will be doing it again!

That makes sense, but he says that ti was the lifter that failed, if that's the case, is it possible that the cam was in fact not damaged? It just wasn't pushing the valve?

That is correct assuming that it just collapsed and won't pump up.If it broke/ cracked,It probably damaged your cam. And they were only 6.95 at my parts dealer HT2011
