Rear tire size 2 Years, 4 Months ago
|
|
Can point me to a thread or tell me what the largest rear tire size I can go with without fear of rubbing or modifying the fender? I've doene some searching and haven't found anything specific.
I'm looking to accomplish 2 things if possible...
a) go with a fatter rear tire for looks.
b) Increase the OD to negate some of the speedo overage. (A little elevation might help with the floorboard dragging in the turns as well. )
THANKS!!!

The biggest you can go with no mods is 160 (stock is 150) Your rim will not allow a larger tire to "look" fatter because it will squeeze the tire. The 160 has been known to "fix" the speedo error.

A buddy of mine has a hice meaty fat tire on his 2006 V-star with stock cast rim & no fender mods. He said it was a 200 series tire.

Well... I got a new tire yesterday. I got the larger 160-80-16 and that seems to have accomplished my functional goals... The speed-o is almost dead on per the Garmin Zumo 660 and the ride height is higher, but not too much. The floorboards don;t drag nearly as easy.
The guy at the shop tried to talk me out of going with the bigger tire becuase he said it would mess with the handling. If it did, I don't notice it.
I am so glad the speed-o is corrected. I found it annoying that it was reading 65 when the actual speed is 60. This was also throwing off my odometer for sure, so my mileage calcs should be more accurate now.

Me too. I think their tire is size is larger because their rim is 15" instead of 16" like ours.
I'll take the thinner tire with the 600more cc's any day. I feel like I'm on a scooter every time I ride a V*.
