I got to thinking after my last post and went back and checked a little farther. I think it is the speedometer assembly.

I recalled seeing a rubber grommit in the tool pouch. Does that grommit go in the opening where the key comes through the assembly. It seems to reduce the noise when I push against the assembly where the hole for the key is. I'm thinking that may be the cure to the ticking which is probably a viabration in that area instead of an engine noise.

Yes!!! Mystery solved. It was the ring around the key hole. I put the grommet I found, in the tool pouch under it and no more ticking. Thanks to everyone for your in-put. Now I will have some idea as to where to look in the future for any of those “phantom noises”.
