I Rear Cylinder Pipe Sux 2 Years, 2 Months ago
I have done all the SVS cures thrice including the removal of the exhaust. Is there something else that can cause the rear jug to suck in through the pipe? Any suggestions on extreme SVS remedies? I am not getting all the umph out of the bike, like the rear cylinder is just not running well. I don't even have 10k on this bike!!

Extreme SVS remedy? Tear the head off and start cleaning!
Then again, that may be the last resort.

Does it KEEP happening or has it just never gotten any better?

Just never seemed to get any better. I have my jetting where it should be and it runs pretty good, but the power just isn't there (honda vtx takes me every time). The rear pipe puffs and sux to the point that I can feel the suction with my hand over the end, no need to do a tissue test. So is SVS the only thing that could be causing this??

Have you lowered the oil level? there is a service bulletin that the recommended oil level is too high. use 4qts or a couple ounces less with oil change. Seems there is some kind of build-up on the valve guides, quite a few had to ream the valve guide, think it was a 6mm ream.

And on the 2nd note, the 1800vtx, has much more hp and tq then our stock, you'd need a stage lll to get to that kind of numbers. Keep in mind that I think the stated hp is engine and not to rear wheel, about 15% less at wheel

honda vtx takes me every time). Well at around 90hp and 100tq, I should hope so...unless your really modded out on the engine...

But back to your problem, How well is your bike running? unplug the rear's sparkplugs and see how much change there is...believe it or not, some folks have ridden for quite a while on one cylinder with out even knowing it...

I get 42 mpg, I am familiar with the oil level issue and am running correct levels, I'll unplug the rear cylinders and get back to you Flashback, would it actually suck in at the pipe if it weren't firing in the rear? Thanx for the responses.

On the VTX, he's all stock and I have V&H Longshots and Mr. Cancilla's BAK, it's real close when we run.

Then don't bother unplugging the plugs... no way you would get 42mpg if the rear wasn't firing...but yea it would suck in even if it was not fireing...
I'm thinking compression check, that would help narrow it down..I will say this tho, most all of us run a bit richer on the rear, it's been a topic that has been hashed around a good bit...

Like FB says it does run that way. If you you reall want to check do a compression check and a leak down test. Depending on what you find you can spend the bucks to do new SS valves and seats cut at sharper angles, stuffer spring and all that stuff. Me I am waiting until HAVE to go inside the I will do the works.
