So do you HAVE to take the motor out of the frame or do you think I can get away with just taping it up real good and painting it intact.

My painter did on the bike. He taped everything up.

Is there any special prep for the jugs prior to paint? I know you will need to clean then very well and primer them, then paint, but I don’t want to miss anything else I might need to do prior to starting this winter project??

A guy here at work painted his vtx1300 engine then he took his dremel tool and did the edges of his fins. Looked better than factory.

I was wondering what I had to do to get the fins shinny again. Now I know. Thanks, I think a black engine look good. I have seen a few bikes that had engines painted/powder coated black and I think it really adds to the look I am going for.

If you had a Midnight star you wouldn't have to paint you engine...it's already done! He just used an abrasive wheel on his dremmel, removed the paint then polished with a rubber polishing wheel.

trying to think how rounded jugs are, but seems like you could use a block hand sander with some 800-1000 grit to clean up
