A very simple way to add a fan to a cooler would be to use a computer case fan. They're found in many different sizes & all run on 12v.

This has been discussd before - lots.

You don't need to worry bout overheating unless yor gonna idle for an hour in 100+ heat. The oil lines are BIG, long, more than adequate to cool.

If you really want an oil cooler I can sell you a very pretty chrome one for $300...................just joking.

Gardener,

You need to give some thought to using a thermostat. Oil operates at peak effeciency when within the proper operating range. It can be run too cool, and not perform as engineered, resulting in less protection.

exactly right but you left out the #'s

160-190*F is "proper operating temperature"

hot enough to cook off the moisture without killing the viscosity.

if i were to quote someone on that it would be popular mechanics circa late 70's to early 80's. but ofcourse oil itself has come a long way sinse then.

If you do install an oil cooler get the adapter from JAG. It fits between the engine block and oil filter housing.

Jamie...if that is a pusher fan then you might pick up some extra speed!

I have taken a number of looks at the Strat/Roadliner oil cooler, really small but it must work to cool that big dog. You could hide it real easily. Big Bear can you confirm how small it is? Hey, that came out kind of funny.....

Years back I put a lockart system on my XS 650. It came with a thermostat. Who knows if it helped but it looked neat and it did improve the clutch fade that thing had when in traffic on a hot day. Since I commute in traffic I've thought about a oil temp gauge but the bike seems to handle heat well. BOL
