H4 Headlight Bulb Replacement 5 Years, 1 Month ago
Hey Folks, One Bathroom and a New Job Later!!!

Wanted to upgrade my headlight bulb to a higher wattage bulb for driving on a "really dark" highway......

Has anyone done this??? What should I install, stay away from ect, ect.. Would I have to upgrade wiring???

Any info would be greatly appreciated......

Thanks,

Steef

Steef--

Go for the Sylvania SilverStar, but buy the car headlight (#9003) instead...they are exactly the same bulb as the H4, and come in two-packs at Wal Mart. And they are VERY bright...

Ok....so if guy buys those bulbs for replacement, what would a guy buy for his passing lamps to match that same brightness of his headlight? I'd like to get a little brighter as well with my lights.

I'd stay away from a higher wattage bulb as it will really heat up the bucket.

If you go with a newer brighter bulb you notice a big difference. I use the Silverstar and it's same wattage as stock but much whiter.

Beefcake--

SilverStars also come in H3, which is what your passing lamps use. I've got the Silverstar 9003 in the headlight and Silverstar H3s in the passing lamps. I blind People, but I see where I'm going AND I get seen, that's for darn sure.

Use the same wattage as stock

But here is the dilemma

H4 stock 55/60 watt
H4ST 55/60

BUT for the passing lamps....H3 stock 35 watts

H3ST 65 watts...could pose a problem overloading the lighting circuit especilly if you have additional lighting...

You guys may want to read this...Daniel Stern has been around a long time and is considered by many to be the lighting guru...he wrote a pretty definitive treatise on the subject of automotive lighting; bulbs; wattages, etc.
