Carb and HEAT issue 2 Years, 3 Months ago
I have a 2000 MM edition Roadstar and when I ride it for long distances (75 to 100 miles) OK, short distances..... and it is HOT outside, temps above 90 degrees, the bike will not want to start when we stop and take a break, it will crank and crank and I can smell gas. it will eventually start after 5 min or so....

has anyone had this problem? any ideas?

Gene

Do a search for carb puking. A LOT of talk about this in the threads, and the possible solutions.

Sounds like a little carb puking. check your float level probably a tad high. When you first try to start it does it buck a little? Or just crank?

Glad ya found us......... looking at your profile, I saw that you have some VH aftermarket pipes, many times folks will rejet the carb when changing pipes, and in almost all cases, it is not needed...you are probably too rich..

Disconnect the carb heater. Might not cure the problem but it might help.

Did you by any chance remove your fuel pump? When I did, that's what happened to my bike. So I put it back on and it's been fine since.

:-DD.
