floorboard extensions and big bar chaps 2 Years, 3 Months ago
I’ve been thinking about getting a set of floorboard extensions and I have a few questions. I have Yami big bars on my scoot as well as chaps and I was wondering if having the floorboard extensions would rub or chafe the chaps. Anyone have a set on a set up like mine? Steve at TCS couldn’t say for sure as he couldn’t find any photos of the extensions with the chaps on the big bars.

I have the Airlite "chaps", Big Bar with extentions, 2" to spare. No problem! Here's a couple pics.

I have the floorboard extensions with the big bar. They don't touch my chaps. Got the chaps from NoPork. Would post picture, but got a new camera and don't have the equipment to load from the camera to the computer yet.
BTW when you put your floorboard extensions on, be ready to heat the bolts on the floorboards to help break the red loctite.

Thank guys. I've read that the bolts are welded in with locktite so thanks for the heads-up. How much heat? Will a soldering iron work or will I have to use a small torch? I think I have one someplace left over from the wire job on my apes. Use it for the shrink tupe...ya all think that might do'er?

From what all I have read about red Loctite it has to be heated to a bout 325 degrees (F) in order to completely break it down. When I put my extenders on I took a brass drift pin and gave the bolts a good "whack" first then heated them.....I don't have a clue as to how hot they were, b ut you could get one of those heat "crayons" if you're going to be that precise.
Just make sure that you have a high quality Allen socket and get it in there good & straight & you shouldn't have any problem.

BTW are you using billjr's extensions? that's what I have and they are wonderful and quite affordable.

Don't know how hot you have to get the bolts, I used a little butane torch. Would heat a little at a time, and check bolt to see if it would break loose. Prior to starting the Yamaha dealer told me that they use a good impact wrench and it usually works. Didn't work for me, might work for you.

My bolts came off without heat but they did put up a fight. Try wacking them or use a cordless drill with a torque setting first. If you do need to use a torch, make sure you treat the bolts and painted surface around the area after you are done with a rust inhibitor or corrosion will take over in short order
