On the right side of the bike you'll see a large plug with a small plug below it. The big one is for filling; the small one is a weep hole and is used to set the level. As for oil?? I can only recommend what the manual recommends.

The stock gear oil is 80W GL4.

I've been running Mobil Synthetic 75W-90 GL5

I've been using if for a while and haven't riden any R* with the OEM recommended fluid in it so I would find it difficult to say 'yes' or 'no'.

Mine shifts as I would expect it to. A couple of weeks ago I did have trouble shifting in and out of first, especially when standing still, but my clutch cable was not adjusted properly. Since then everything is OK.
