Nope, looks like the right way to go. Let us know how hard it really is.

Re:tubeless with spokes 2 Years, 2 Months ago
Will do...I know a couple of folks did it on the RSR site a few years ago, I haven't kept up over there so I don't know if it stands the test of time, but I figure it only needs to last till the next tire change........... I eventually would like some fat twisted spokes but they are not in the cards this time around, but the tubeless thing has been chewing at me quite a while...I am thinking I might embed the rubber band into the silicone then lay another coat on top of it..might be better than the paper dots, what ya think?.......

I was thinking about a thin rubber band myself but that depends whether the aircraft gas tank sealant remains pliable or not.

What about ...... Dap 08641 Dow Corning Clear Silicone Sealant

If you true the wheel first then you could just do around the spokes. The stuff is tough, flexible and tough to get off when you want to.

Thanks for the info Doc, I was planning on using 100% silicone instead of the aircraft stuff. I've built several aquariums with it and it is tough but still flexible..Some folks put paper sticky dots over each spoke nub, but they are so close together, I feel that the rim band might be a better approach.. I'm thinking that if some care is taken when mounting the new tire, it should be OK..
I'll probably have the bike shop mount the tire as they have the proper equipment..I'd tear everything loose doing it by hand with the flat bars that I used to get the old one off...Gonna collect the supplies tommorrow and probably try to get something done with it this weekend if Mamma don't side track me..........

Am interested in this project, as my new tires just came in, and I'd love to go tubeless!

I thought of that too Bob, but in the article that I read, they were doing it on dirt bikes and they take a pretty good pounding although they are a lot lighter...I'm really more concerned about slow leaks, That said, I would put up with a sloooow leak just for the advantage of being able to plug it on the road and not have to call a wrecker just for a flat..The mag wheels are the ideal, but cash is an issue there...The ones that I like cost as much as the bike, shoot, I'm doing good just to afford the tires........

jump on in and give it a try......then I won't feel alone.....I'm just gonna do it to the front at first, Ive got a few more miles left on the back. If it doesn't work out then I only have one screwup to fix....
