Windshield Install 6 Years, 10 Months ago
Waited four weeks for a Silverado windshield and finally got it tonight. When I went to install it, I got no further than trying to remove the two screws that hold on the headlight rim. One came off no prob, the second would not budge to the point that the screw stripped out. It appears this sucker was overtightened. Anyone have anyluck with a screw remover? Any suggestions?

It's not an uncommon problem. Yamaha used a lot of thread locker on most of the screws and bolts plus they seem to be made of softer metal.

I don't understand to what you are refering.

If you're putting on the Silverado bracket there are two allen head bolts under the bucket (also bolts on the turnsignal bracket) and two hex bolts on the top tree. Why are you unscrewing the "headlight rim" screws?

If you've completely stripped the screw, then you'll need to use a dremel to cut a slot in the screw. Then heat up the screw to soften the thread locker and if possible use an impact screwdriver to loosen the screw. Don't hit too hard as you'll dent the soft headlight bucket.

If it's the allen bolt under the bucket, then you may be able to use locking pliers (vise grips), but if I remember correctly there may not be enough room which means using the dremel to slot the bolt, etc. You may also be able to use a screw remover (one of those short ones) but make sure to first heat the bolt.

Good luck
