Deep Creep isn't working 1 Year, 11 Months ago
I have posted sevral times about problems I was having in my elec. system with a weak spark. Posted a video and doc said looked like a classic case of svs. I have put a new ign mod. on the bike and can tell a noticable diff. But still has the valve problem in the front cyl. Have run deep creep thruogh it sevral times. And now the carb overflow has green crap dripping out on to the crankcase. When should I give up and take the head off? Please help...

If you have a compression gauge, I think that would be my next step...........then I would consider removing the head depending on the results..IMHO........

I agree ... time to pull out the compression meter and test the cylinder.

Even better .... do a leak down test, that will tell you where it's leaking.

Ok doc, quick question. Had a guy look at it a couple weeks ago, he replaced a bad lifter. Should the exaust rocker arm be moving as far as the intake rocker arm. B/C its only moving half as far. Didn't have a problem with my front cyl till he replaced the lifters, it was the rear cyl. Which is the one that was running bad when all my troubles started. And the cyl that had the bad lifter that was knocking.

Could not tell you. How do you know how far it's moving .... have you got the head off?

OK ... let me understand .... the front was running bad so he replaced one of the lifters on the front.

If so then it's possible the rocker is too tight and the valve is not closing.

Again, the compression or leak down test will help you isolate your problem.

You have to go at these things systematically or you'll be replacing a lot of parts.

Just the head cover. Rolled it over and intake rocker is moving twice as far as the exaust rocker. Both starting at the same level.

The service manual shows the cam profile for intake lobe and exhaust lobe to be the same height (lift). SO, if the rocker arms for the intake and exhaust are the same length...then yes, valves should move the same distance.

If int & ex have same basic lift the either the cam is going flat or you have a collapsed hyd lifter on the cyl when 1 valve is only moving about 1/2 the distance as the other valve is when the motor is spun over with rocker cover off to see it in action.

Too much clearance on rocker arm of valve thats not moving as far could also be the reason valve doesnt move as far as the other one does. But in that case you would think the valve would be very noisey/clicky-ticky soudning from excessive clearance the hyd lifter could not make up for.

Thank You That is what I needed to know. Will try and diagnose from here. Had rocker cover off, and saw that they are deffinatly moving at diff hights. One about 1/4" one about 1/8". Lifters were just replaced. Wonder what he could have done that would have made it fail already.

You did not provide that important bit of info.

Take it back and have him redo the job properly.
