It ran for a min. 2 Years, 2 Months ago
Ok have had this problem for a while. All my threads are about this problem. I have isolated it to the exaust valve on the front cyl. I had noticed the exaust rocker was only moving half as far as the intake valve. Changed the lifter to one I just happend to have extra. Started it up and it ran great for about a min. It would rev. And then slowly, it started missing again. Then some knocking, and back to poppin out the carb. Collapsed the lifter. Shot deep creep straight up the exaust port a couple times, and bike will idle ok for a few seconds then back to missing. Going to do a compression test tomorrow, Them possibly take off the head. Any input would be great.

You put in a new lifter and used cam lube?

How did the bottom of the lifter look when you removed it?

If it looked OK and you replaced it only to have the new one collapse, you may have a bent valve stem. I can't see SVS causing a collapsed lifter....

No didn't have any, so I rubbed the old one with the new one and it coated it pretty good. The lifters that were in it now have only been in there two weeks or so. And the bike hasn't been running right since they were in. (Wasn't the problem like the tech thought.) Did notice that the bottom was a little scuffed when I took it out. The others were not. I'm thinking the valve is sticking hard enough to collapse the lifters.
Is that possible?

Did you pump up the lifters in oil prior to install??? (The manual says to do it in kerosene.)

If it runs for a few minutes and then goes south, I would think that the valve stem is not bent. However, it could have something to do with the heating up of the head/valve guide while running.

I would suggest you look at the cam. A new lifter should not get *scuffed*

While you have it apart, roll the push rod on a flat surface to see if it is straight.

The first one I took out didn't look bad at all. It is just easy to squeeze down like they are bleeding out. But the one I put in it was primed and you couldn't push it in with your hands. Thats the one I put in and the bike ran right for a min. When I took it back out it had some scuffs on it. But am thinking you are right about the warped valve. Well see tomorrow.

Even if you don't use fresh cam lube?
