Manifold 2 Years, 2 Months ago
Folks, I am about to replace my manifold due to normal wear. I am wondering if you can help with some soughts/options for the brands you are recommending (links to the websites) would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Factory Port it if you want. I have a Ben Herr, He has no way of securing the carb to it, so your carb will fall out when it wants. And it leaks at each weather change, and I have went through half a dozen HD gaskets, (Thats what it uses, carb just pushes into the hole, no clamp, no o ring, no seal) And that is including about 2 tubes of RV glue I used to repair the gaskets after the Carb wore slices into them from vibration. (The Solid manifold vibrates a WHOLE lot more than the factory rubber one.

I thought it was an easy job to find a replacement. Actually someone told me their are performance manifold also, hopefully that wouldn’t help in increasing the vibration. Should i cut it short and go for stock one !!!! as I am not ready to port it yet

Well Erb, it aint broke yet but yesterday when i checked it didnt look like its gonna last long (I have no idea how old cuz I bought the bike last year), sort of cracks yet no leakage. any idea what would be the symptoms if it leaks anyway??

the outside rubber is normal to show cracks as it ages, but there is metal underneath all that rubber as well. Typically symptoms of an air leak is back fire thru pipes, excessive decel popping from a slow rate of speed. change in rpm idle from light to light after it is warmed up properly, and all these symptoms could also be from not properly tuned carb

Smear some black RTV into the cracks and keep on riding. These manifolds crack on the surface from heat and weather like all rubber but most are just surface cracks.

I have not had to the chance to get her up and running all the way but agree on the porting. Can not wait to see all the work Curt did on my manifold pay off in a little more ponies LOL! Thanks Curt even did it when he was all bummed up from his wreck .
