Just pulled the carb off and I want to port the manifold, but nobody mentioned that you need some sort of magical powers to get a tool in there to remove the the screws on the back side of the manifold. Any help?

I bought a metric allen socket set when I first got the bike you need them for all over the bike. They look like 3/8 drive sockets with allen wrenches put in them. Makes workin on the R* easy.

Thanks...I've seen them and I have the one for the exhaust nuts. But I must be tired and smelling too much gas. Two nuts to drop the fuel pump bracket and there was my easy access. (I knew I should have openned the garage door) The manifold is out...now to grind!

Yeah, you gotta pull the head stay bracket that holds the fuel pump off first, then a set of "long" allen wrenchs should do the job. Not as bad as it looks. It's one of those situations where you get about 1/16th of a turn on those bolts till they're finally free enough to turn by hand though.Patience is a virtue!BB

ball ended allen wrenches, mate

worth their weight in gold, as can be used at 15º + from vertical to the head of the bolt.

always had a set hanging about

I agree Erzio! I discovered ball ended allen wrenches by accident earlier this year, definately a must have in your tool box.
