Are there any significant differences between the 2006 R* and the tech article when it comes to removing the AIS?

None. Not as long as you use the instructions for the 04.

Just a thought but on a injected bike with o2 sensors. The o2 sensors are reading exhaust with air injected into it, and that reading is what the ecm uses to make fuel delivery adjustment. It seems to me that when you take away the injected air, that the reading at the o2 sensor would show a rich condition and the ECM would LEAN out the air fuel mixture.
If I had a injected bike I would do a little more research before removing The AIS.

Re:AIS removal 2 Years, 1 Month ago
Hello to all,

I am thinking of buying a 2007 Road Star that has the Yamaha Stage II performance kit including the Big Air Kit, speedstar ignition module (5500 rpm), speedstar long drag pipes, and had the AIS removed using the Barron's AIS removal kit. I have two questions I would appreciate any advice on:

1. If I want to put the stock pipes back on, what would I have to do to make it run properly (e.g, re-jet? put back on the AIS system?, etc.

2. If putting on the stock pipes requires too much hassle ($$$$), any recommendations on a new set of pipes that sound more like the fat rumbling sound of a harley. and would I have to re-jet or re-tune?

Why all these questions...I really don't like the sound of the Speedstar pipes...tinny and too much rat tat tat sound. I'm also worried that within a couple years California is going to pass a law to require SMOG tests on bikes.

Thanks.

You can usually find them on Ebay pretty cheap.

Dave, luckily I am like you. I still have the ais with aftermarket pipes and jet kit and no backfiring at all.
