"Fast idle setting?" 5 Years ago
My Roadie idles way too slow when cold with the choke knob pushed in. (I don't use the choke anymore than absolutely necessary, it could lead to carboning when flooding.) After the bike is started, I push the knob in to the 1st detent out. Then it soon starts to sound "flooded" so I push the knob all the way in, but it idles WAY too slow for a good warmup.
On my old carbureted Chevy, the choke had a "fast idle" that the engine would run at 1500 rpm until you blipped the gas pedal after the electric choke warmed up and turned itself off.
My question is: Does the roadie have a "fast idle" setscrew? Or does it have just the "one size fits all" idle adjuster knob that you have to constantly screw with?
It would be nice if the bike would run as fast when cold as it does warmed up.
Any advice?

Do you have it idled "down" for a "loped" sound? I now have a tach( ) and mine idles at about 900rpms warm and cold (well after a few moments on choke then choke turned off). The only adjustment is the idle knob under the airbox, but I found with mine, when I had the idle down (750rpms) it didn't seem to warm up as well. Just a couple thoughts.BB

Sounds normal.

The idle is set to spec with the engine warm. You use the choke (full to start, part until warmed up) to keep the revs up.

If I set the idle speed at a good spot when it's warm (just low enough to avoid the hard clunk when shifting into first gear) it seems to idle too slow when cold with the choke pushed in. I like to start it and then push the choke all the way in soon. If I push it in to the last detent for "fast idle" by the time I grab my gear and put it on, the bike will be flooding rich before I get back to it.
I like to start the bike, go finish my coffee and don my gear while the bike is warming up. It is still barely above freezing some mornings in May around here.
I hate running an engine rich for fear of carboning it up, or wearing the rings out from excess unburned gasoline washing the oil away.
I will have to see about making a fast idle kit of my own I guess. ....

!!!!CORRECTION!!!
...I just got a brain fart out of the way!!!
...Why don't I just use the throttle lock on the handgrip for fast idle without using the choke?! MARVELOUS!
...Sometimes I am so Dense! DUH!
(Can't see the tree for the forest! )
Thanks for the replies Doc & BB, you got me a thinkin'

hey doc. hows thing going? if you have a vista cruser cruse control on you bike i found that if i use half the choke to start, then when you here the loping sound push in to 1 click out and give 1/4 thottle and lock it in place, push in the choke the rest of the way . put on your gear and take off. that works real good for my bike anyways. latter

Sens are still in the running for the Cup so all is good.

Don't have cruise control on my bike but you could do it that way.

I've always used the choke without any problems. You can tell it runs richer (the choke is an enricher ) so I minimize the use of it.

It's cold a lot of mornings here so I use the choke almost always and have not had any carbon problems related to its use.
