i actually put my bike on the dyno the other day just to see the hp and tq (it was free so didnt do air/fuel mixture) and i had 55hp and 85ft lbs of torque, with only V&H longshots w/o baffles does that sound about right?
depends if it's a 1600 or 1700 engine
1600 stock hp is approx 52 tq is approx 88
1700 approx 63hp tq approx 94
Pipes with no baffles lose Tq as evidenced by your dyno #'s really need something in the pipes to provide back pressure to get the tq back up.

Excellent advice here boys.
I had my bike jetted (dealer said I had too) when I changed exhaust to 3" HK. Guys would complain of rich fuel smell behind me. While in the shop last winter, had K&N installed, and doucebag suggested it be rejetted. Problem got even worse. I called the 2nd guy back and said to bring it in over the winter-but because he was 2 months late with my bike the first time I thought I'd pass...and was thinking now wtf do I do?
After reading this thrread here last night, I googled and found a bike dyno and tuning specialist not too far from me and made an appointment for Saturday morning. Getting the bike dyno'd didnt even cross my mind, nor did I know such a thing existed.
For 200 bux hes going to put in on the dyno, make adjustments and dyno again. I'm pretty stoked to have the problem sorted out correctly finally.
Thanks for the advice guys.

Had to post a thanks to you guys for the help with mine running rich. Finally got to dig into mine and found 2 probs.
1. Leak in manifold (dont know if it would cause it to run rich but I assume smell)
2. Trashed air filter
The air filter threw me a curve because I thought buying a service pack from a. dealer they would atleast look at it
Anyway thnx guys

well guys i dug into my bike last night, and checked the needle setting and the clip is at the very bottom (the leanest setting) so i checked the pms screw on the bottom of the carb and it was at least 4 1/2 turns out so i ran it all the way in and started at 3 turns out and i helped with the black smoke. so then i checked my accelerator pump screw and turn it in 1 full turn and i completly got rid of the black smoke. so im going to try this set up and check my mileage.

I don't know, but I'm sure someone else on here will. suggest to put up a new posting to ask. if they are, there also might be aftermarket ones as well

Your clip is on the first notch from the blunt end? (That would be the leanest) or the last notch from the blunt end? I've never heard of one set on the first notch from the blunt end.

At least for the stock carb, I know there is one needle out there that's been recommended for 2nd groove, but can't recall which one it is, one of these off brand ones.
You can do it on the 42hsr tho, just need to make an slight adjustment on the pilot screw, but you better be darn sure that there are absolutely zero air leaks or it just won't work. But, it's also a good way if using the 42 to find out if there are leaks. and of course there are advantages and disadvantages to doing it. adv. better mpg to a higher rate of speed. I gained 5mpg going 80mph, normally was 40mpg @ 80, on 1st groove 45mpg disadv. at 70, 75mph will need to drop a gear to pass quickly.

yes, with the clip on the lowest position it causes the needle to sit higher
