Clutch 2 Years ago
Ok for you guys that have parked your bikes for a long period of time and went to get on and the clutch will not disengage.
What did you do??

I have started the bike and let it run for about a minute & worked the clutch lever over and over and over and I can not get the clutch to release. I know I'm adjusted properly this is not my first time. I'm asking those who have had this problem to anwser what they did to get the clutch plates to free up?????????????????

Well it can't be the cable it's brand new from Barnetts. The bike is going through some major changes and has sat for at least 5 months. I wanted to test ride it today with the new front end, new brakes, new cables, new bars etc. And for the life of me I can't get the clutch to release. If I have to I will pull the clutch apart but I was hoping that someone had run into this problem and could tell me what they did. You know like should I let the bike warm up for 5-10 minutes and get the oil hot??? Should I force the bike to move in gear? Just fishing for a little help here.

The oil as close as possible to operating temp will help this issue. Sit on the bike with the engine running at high idle with the clutch lever pulled in. Try revving it up quickly while the lever is pulled in. The abrupt torque of the spinning hub may break the plates free from each other. Work the lever in and out a few times. The plates are just stuck together, they will come apart when the oil is hot enough. Mine sticks together somewhat just from sitting a week or even overnight, evidenced by the "clunk" when I put it in gear. The plates are somewhat stuck together but quickly separate when one set are stopped by the act of putting it in gear. If I sit there with the clutch lever pulled in at high idle for about 10 seconds or so, the tranny goes into gear so smooth I can't even hear it go in, and can barely feel it. If this fails, you can try some MMO in the oil to see if it will free it up.

RoadHawg

Thanks that did the trick. I let it warm for almost 10 minutes, pulled the clutch several times rev the motor with clutch in, did several times and then tried putting her into gear and low and behold she is back to normal.

So Thanks again and I will try to never let her sit that long again!!!

Oh come on Danny! dont be stingy with the pix! and this is the reason I always park my bike in Neutral... then ya dont have to worry about them plates and if the bike is gonna "lurch" when ya try to start it... I learned that early on... but, what RoadHawg said works too... rev it a couple of good times to shock the plates... then they will unstick themselves... oh, I sent ya an email with some updated trike pix...
