idle increases after engine is warmed up? 2 Years ago
|
|
my 01' Star runs pretty good but i notice after its warmed up real good it sounds like it is idiling alittle to fast. i bought it last year and it has Bub Jug Hugger pipes on it.they are short and pretty loud with the stock air cleaner. could it be idiling to fast because it has the stock cleaner on it like its struggling for more air flow? i dont know. im new to street bikes. help.

could be a intake leak (common) - easy easy is let it get warmed up and spray carb cleaner (i think erb said he had better luck with starter fluid) around the joints, if it changes idle then you know where your leak is.

Carb cleaner? Would this not cause premature deterioration of the rubber o-rings and intake coating? Just a thought, but I would go for the starter fluid IMHO

Adjust the idle when it is warm....
Mine always idles lower when it is cold. It is the nature of a carbed beast.

I have an '03 so it too has a carb. I start it with the choke out when cold, once started I push the choke back to half and it definitely idles faster once it is warmed up.

Nothing wrong with your bike they all idle faster after they are warmed up. Like was said above set the idle when it is warm just like you adjust the PMS when it is warm. The proper idle speed is 750 - 950 rpm these bikes idle higher than a harley to keep the oil pressure up.
